Have you ever had to re-invent yourself? Left a career to stay at home with the kids or switch jobs and start over? Re-Invention is a mother-f*ckEr. At least for me it was. I spent 10 years trying to figure out what’s next and all I was faced with was disappointment and brick walls. I tried to turn my passion into purpose and it just wasn’t happening.
Then I found the right vehicles that led me to my current destination. And then everything started falling into place.
I met with a friend the other day that I hadn’t seen in maybe 30 years. We originally met when we were both 16 while our families vacationed at the same resort. Not only did we become fast friends but so did our families. The bond was so strong that when she told her parents she wanted to move to “America”, our doors were wide open and invited her to come live with us. After 30+ years of not seeing each other, our conversation picked up where we left off and what we learned is that we have both had to start – stop – start – stop and start again. When I shared with her what my current affairs were, she asked me,“why do you think now is your time”? And I simply answered, “because it is all falling into place in the most poetic way”.
As humans, we are impatient. We want instant gratification. Especially now more than ever. We scroll all over the internet and we want what they have…until we happen to stumble upon the next thing and then we want that. Fragmentation is the devil and it’s taken me some time to simply focus on what is right in front of me. Now that didn’t just happen all on it’s own. When I decided exactly what I wanted I crafted out how to manifest it. And in doing so, I have aligned myself with the most beautiful humans. I have not been this excited about anything since I started making furniture out of my parent’s garage and that was 30 years ago.
It’s been a long and hard road and one that saw a lot of dark days. But as I look at this picture and reflect on a recent workshop – I am reminded of what is happening now and how much work it has taken to get here. Regardless of the dark moment, the struggle, the obstacles, the self doubt and everything in between – this was worth the wait. When a stranger pulls me aside at one of these events and whispers in my ear, “I now know that I am not alone and I am going to be okay”, it reminds me that I am no longer alone. In that moment she went from stranger to friend, confirming what I had been marinating and envisioning for so long is now becoming a tangible reality.
It’s amazing what can happen when you put a few strong, brilliant, creative and passionate women together.
Magic!!
