I had way too much testosterone in my house this past weekend. It has been one party after another and these late night bar/bat mitzvah’s leaves the kids hyper and wanting more, even at the very late hour of 11:30p.m.
Generally, what happens is whatever parent is doing the late night pick up ends up being talked into taking the whole car load home for a sleepover. Saturday night, I had 4 boys in my car plus the two that I already had at home, in bed, sleeping.
Before resting my head on the pillow that night, I took out some pop tart dough that I had in my freezer and put it in the fridge. I had been wanting to recreate this dessert I had tried a few weeks back from a local food truck. And having 6 boys in the house created the perfect time to test it out.
Before the boys woke up the next day, I rolled out the dough and baked it. I macerated some strawberries with 1 tablespoon of sugar and dash of balsamic. While the dough was still slightly warm, I layered the berries on top and drizzled some homemade chocolate sauce and homemade caramel sauce over the berries. Sprinkled with a bit of powdered sugar and I think I got pretty close to the taste of the original.
The boys enjoyed this little appetizer before their real breakfast of eggs, bacon, bagels, and frut. Then they were out the door(by 8:30 a.m.) for a paint ball party. I sure wish I had a smidge of their energy.

Pop tart pie?! Excuse me, but you are the best slumber party mom ever! This looks amazing. We need to have a slumber party, Susan. Grown-up style with wine, cheese, ‘When Harry Met Sally’ and pop tart pie.
I am all over the grown up slumber party. I think we need to hit Marla up for a weekend at her Telluride digs. Don’t you agree?
